Square Solutions content management solution was developed specifically for Local Authorities to meet E-Government requirements. It provides a repository for articles and objects and offers a portal to in-house systems, and has been designed to be used by non IT personnel. Support for a second language is built in. IT FEATURES

• COMS operates on the Microsoft web server IIS5 using SQL Server 2000. Corporate solution that can sit on multiple web servers and is fully scaleable. Written using Active Server Pages (ASP) and SQL Server stored procedures to provide a multi-tier architecture.
   
• Uses only industry standard HTML script or plain text. No proprietary language or protocol to learn.
   
• Templates are used to create documents. When contents are added they are automatically formatted to suit the template of that part of the site.
   
• By using templates, a consistent style can be developed by Web Designers while enabling authors without this skill to produce attractive and consistent content.
   
• Contents and the templates are stored separately and securely in a relational database
   
• Content types supported in Templates include HTML, text, GiF, JPEG, PDF, XML.
   
• Sound and video clips and proprietary documents from Microsoft office can be stored in the database.
   
• The layout of the screen is controlled by Style sheets to set the theme, a top level template divides up the screen into navigation and content areas. Document templates are used to place fixed information on the screen, to retrieve information from the document database and format it and place it on the screen.
   
• E-GIF and XML compliant where possible, standard HTML 4.01, HTTP1.1 transport, FTP and HTTP file transfer protocols
   
• Images are GIF and JPEG, Audio clips, Streaming video and PDF.
