BELLS

The tower now has a ring of six bells. The augmentation and rehanging with all new ringing fittings, and the existing cast iron bell frame being extended in September 2002 by John Taylor of Loughborough to mark the Golden Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The bells are tuned to the key of G (786Hz)
 

Treble: Wgt – 4-1-12.   Date 2002 Founder John Taylor, Loughborough.

 

No 2: Wgt 5-1-5.   Date 2002 Founder John Taylor Loughborough. Inscription:  “Elizabeth II 1952 –2002.”

 

No 3. Wgt - 5-2-12.   Date - 1719 Founder - Evan Evans, Chepstow Inscription: "Thos Edmondes, Gent, Thos Pritchard Ch. W. E.E. 1719"

 

No 4. Wgt - 7-2-22.   Date- c 1380-1450 Founder – Robert Hendley, Gloucester. Inscription: “Sancte Michael, ora pro nobis” (St Michael pray for us)

 

No 5. Wgt - 9-3-16.   Date - 1647 This has a coin of the reign of Charles I (1625-1649) stamped on it. Founder - Thomas Stone, itinerant. Inscription: " D.E., D.T., I.I., W.E., W.T., T.H., T.C., T.L., I.T., W.I., GARD 1647 TIS”. (Probably the letters are the initials of the donors)

 

Tenor. Wgt 12-3-27 Date pre-reformation (recast 1949 by John Taylor, Loughborough) Inscription "Virgis egregie voc campana Marie” (I am called the bell of the most excellent Virgin Mary)
